Five Months

This is 11 days late. With each passing month, I find it harder to believe how fast time is passing. I contemplated skipping this months post (mostly due to laziness) and just making it up next month. Then I realized - I am really looking forward to reading back through all of these "Month" posts on our one year anniversary. So although it may be late, it still counts.

New Orleans: Steeler Challenge: November 2012

Highlights from our fifth month as Bores:

  • We celebrated the start of the month in the Big Easy. I was scheduled to be there for a work conference. Neither of us had ever been there, but have always had a strong desire to go. Mr. B decided to join me so we flew in a few days early to play tourist in the land of Mardi Gras beads, powdered sugar beignets and good ole jazz music.
  • Friends from Atlanta joined us and together we learned life lessons: Scott should not drink Jameson in high quantities. Kylie should not walk near the Streetcar tracks. We should not let friends hail taxi's when they don't know what they are doing. Blame the maid for everything - it's always her fault. Making friends with hotel managers, may get you a private escort to the rooftop. Multivitamins and Bloody Mary's are survival necessities.
  • Bible study came to an end this month. On our last night, we celebrated with a cookie party. Put a bunch of ladies in a room with sugar and coffee and you'll end up with a whole lot of laughs and high pitches squeals. We had a blast and I can't wait for it to start again in the New Year.
  • We were invited by Mr. B's colleague, to an evening at the local observatory. After looking through a highly advanced telescope, we felt as if we could join Mr. Armstrong in saying we've walked on the moon. It was awesome.
  • I ate at A&W for the first time this month. We ordered from the car, had our food delivered to the car (too bad she wasn't wearing roller skates) and ate right in the front seat. I felt like I was in the 60's and needed a Drive-In movie screen out the front windshield.
  • We went out with friends the night before Thanksgiving. We toasted to turkey, danced to country music, and took a taxi ride home in a Ford Probe. Again, we can't party like we used too.
  • We joined Scott's brother and my sister in law for Thanksgiving at her family's place. While I took a two hour nap, Mr.B joined the family with inappropriate comments and made his brother blush with common cop jokes. We are not for certain we will ever be invited back.
  • My in-laws invited us over for a second Thanksgiving dinner. While we were there, Carol and I trimmed the tree and the boys watched. Typical.
  • We adopted Nordman Fir Bores during the first weekend of the month - he looses needles every day and may be a Charlie Brown Tree by Christmas.
  • Mr. B helped decorate the tree this year. This was a first. Most years, he strings the lights, adds the star and then I find him sound asleep shortly after.
  • Our Yellowstone trip is officially booked for next June. Comment One: It is advised to plan your trip after July. More than likely we will be site-seeing in our snow pants. Comment Two: All the baby wildlife should be out for viewing. I am looking forward to a baby Moose. I am hoping for the later of the two comments, but with a little less snow and a little more sunshine.
  • We have finally finished painting the baseboards. The upstairs, at least. We are saving the downstairs until after the holidays. We are still completely door-less upstairs, so if you decide to visit, your privacy may be lacking. We hope to fix that problem in month six.
  • Scott is becoming more and more obsessed with camera equipment. His entire Christmas List included camera accessories and I now understand why photographers and cinematographers charge so much for their services. It ain't cheap!
  • We went to our Annual Christmas Play with the rest of the Bores crew earlier this month. This year we saw "Miracle on 34th Street" and it was one of our favorites.
  • Mr. B is wearing his wedding band more and more, but there are some days I still find it sitting on the coffee table, the night stand, or even the living room floor. He blames the dog for distracting him in the morning.
  • We cancelled our trip to New York City. There were visions of ice skating in Central Park, touring Lady Liberty, and snapping photos in front of the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. Instead, we will be in Pennsylvania for my Grandma's Annual Christmas Party, visiting family and friends, and toasting to good times in trashy Altoona bars. Although, sad about our change of plans, it will be nice to see more friends and more family in the town we fell in love.
  • Mr. B is a scrooge. He refuses to listen to Christmas music until Christmas Eve. I've been listening since November 1st.
  • In word's of Mr. B, I asked him to sum up his thoughts on month five - "Was it any different than month four? Or was magical. Is that better?" So happy I married a smartass.

We are half way through my favorite month of the year, celebrating the spirit of Christmas and our six month as Mr. and Mrs. We will have our Annual Seafood Feast at my in-laws on Christmas Eve and then ring in the New Year with my family on the East Coast. It is going to be a month to remember and I am looking forward to making new memories this holiday season.

If you are interested in seeing a little more of our trip to NOLA - I will let the video tell our story. This may be my favorite video to date of Mr. B's. His ideas are blooming and with each new video, he is getting just a little more creative. He is challenging his talent and it's making each new video better than the last. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do:

  1. You are talented Mr. B!

  2. When is Scott going to quit his day job and just do this for a living? He's awesome.
