Our Proposal Story

Shortly after she said YES!

Scott's Version: Nothing says "I love you" like a steak.

How the story really went: It was a random Thursday. July 15th, 2010. I (Kylie) was traveling back to Colorado from a work trip in Atlanta. My flight home was delayed a little over an hour. When I landed, it was late (almost 7PM). I called Scott to tell him I landed safely and that I would just grab dinner on the way home from the airport. He talked me out of it and said, "No I will wait for you, just call me when you are about 20 minutes from the house so it will be ready when you get home." So that is exactly what I did.

When I pulled up to the house, I glanced at my phone and saw that Scott sent me a photo text of Monty, saying that he was excited to see me. I was happy to be home. I walked in dragging my suitcase and bags with me to find a clean house, candles lit, the table set, a bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine, and my sweet boys (Monty & Scott) greeting me at the door.

Too be honest, I thought nothing of it. Scott can be really sweet from time to time, so I thought this was just one of those really sweet moments for him.

We sat down to a deliciously grilled steak and I began telling Scott about my travels. He was quick to get up and run to the kitchen. I had my back to the kitchen, but I kept on talking. [This is when I later learned, Scott was taking a shot of Captain Morgan to calm his nerves]. He walked back over (as I am still talking with a mouth full of steak) and got down on one knee. As I finish chewing, I looked at him and said, "What are you doing?" -- that's when the ring box came out and he went on with his speech.

I said yes with tears in my eyes. I was completely surprised.

We popped open a bottle of champagne to celebrate and called our family and friends.

Turns out, while my flight was delayed, Scott was practicing his proposal speech with Monty. He took a picture while practicing and that was the picture he sent me while I was driving home.

The moment was perfect. I was in my PJ's. Scott was nervous. It was over a nice dinner and took place in our new home. Monty, was still fairly new to us at the time, and played a big role it.
