A Journal-Like Kind of Post

Since returning from our honeymoon, I've fallen sound asleep on the floor twice, before 8PM. I was in bed last night by 8:45PM, reading a new series, blinking 80 times a minute while trying my hardest to keep my eyelids from going shut. I wanted to stay awake until 9:00PM. I did, but it was hard.

I've been in a melancholy, sleepy, chill-kind of mode since returning. Maybe it's the post-blues of leaving paradise or the energy I've used to force myself back into a routine again. Vacations are nice. Really nice. But routines are healthy. Weekday routines are good for me. Good for us.

Today I woke to gray skies. I stayed in bed, watched the news and snuggled my doggy until 7:30AM. I haven't done that since I've returned. It made me feel like my routine was finally settling back into place. I walked into a messy kitchen when I arose from my slumber and decided to clean it. When it was clean, I felt accomplished for the day. It's baby steps and everyday, I am taking more.

I think Scott has settled back in - he is already thinking weekends ahead of when we can break out the camper and head to the mountains. He is ready for cooler air, the noises of nature, and the crackles of a campfire. He is always thinking days ahead. Sometimes, I have to remind him to enjoy today - even if it means watching your wife fall asleep before the sun sets. I need boring sometimes and he needs adventure. We compliment each other.

I have a basement full of wedding decor, boxes of left over alcohol, piles of things from wedding week that all need sorted through and new spaces created for them to go. But that will wait. Probably until the weekend. For now, it's overwhelming and a little bittersweet. I am sad our wedding month is nearing an end, but I am so happy and thankful for the memories we made. Some of the most memorable moments of our lives and they make us smile every time we reminisce.

I have every intention of writing the details of our wedding and honeymoon in this blog. Our memories are funny, special, and the start of a really wonderful marriage. I will find the inspiration to write this week. I must, before the small details are forgotten.

Right now, I am late for work. The air is cooler - I have the windows open and attic fan running. The noise is comforting. It's supposed to be cooler today, wait for it -- a low of 90 degrees. I am ready for the next season and I am dreaming about crisp leaves, pumpkin candles, Scott's homemade chili and football Sundays. I have a cup of warm chai tea beside me and it's hump day. It's going to be a good day.

Enjoy your routine, while I'm getting used to mine.

Until next time, be good and oj sister.

A few thoughts in preparation for our honeymoon:
  • We leave tonight on a red eye to Miami. Then we have a 5 hour layover beginning before the sun comes up. I may or may not be cranky.
  • I am not packed yet. Normally when going on trips of this magnitude, I would have been packed six days ago, shoes and all.
  • I have a very lengthy list that keeps growing of items "we must remember"
  • Our guest bedroom is covered with sunscreen, hats, outfits (dressy and casual), undies, bathing suits, sunglasses, magazines...I don't know how I am going to fit it all in one bag and I still haven't added shoes.
  • Scott wants to zipline while we are there. You must wear sneakers. I haven't packed mine yet, and I just don't know if I will have room in my suitcase.
  • The weather forecast shows a lot of rain and little sun. I thought it never rained in the Caribbean.
  • I have been having wedding nightmares all week long and talking in my sleep. I gave a speech one night, the other I woke Scott up out of a dead sleep asking if we paid the people for brunch, and I thought I lost all of my memories from the wedding and panicked. He is concerned this will happen while I am sleeping on the plane or every night of our trip.
  • I bought 2 pairs of cheap, big sunglasses for the pool and beach because I toss them, loose them and break them often. Scott thinks they are obnoxious.
  • We are going on our honeymoon and the one thing I am most excited about is riding bikes downtown through the markets. When I bike in the US, my butt starts hurting 5 minutes into the trip.
  • Scott says I "graham-cracker" too much. What he means is Instagram. I don't know how I will live without it for the next 7 days. Maybe he is right.
  • He is still sleeping and I am supposed to be working.
  • He hasn't even started packing yet.
  • We already miss our dog and we haven't left him yet.
  • I am ready for a fruity drink.
  • I really love my husband. Please pray he doesn't loose his ring in the pool. He can't seem to keep it on his finger.
